The Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) Supervisor provides technical support to managers, supervisors, employees, and safety advocates and is based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq under the Operations Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position reports to the EHS Manager and assists operations management to understand and comply with EHS policies and regulations, Amentum’s Principles of Safety Excellence, and achieve the Standards of Safety Performance defined by Amentum’s SafeUp® program. The following duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of assigned work and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES

  • Maintain a safe workplace, foster a SafeUp® culture aligned with all Environmental, Health, & Safety policies, and ensure safety is the highest value in the workplace.
  • Promote a quality culture, perform continuous process improvement, and comply with procedures derived from the Quality Management System.
  • Provide records and information to the Quality Department, Human Resources Department, and others to ensure compliance with reporting, record keeping and legal requirements.
  • Provide technical support to managers, employees, and safety advocates for safe work standards, rules, requirements, and guidelines.
  • Ensure management conducts EHS self-assessments and sites are meeting the expectations of Amentum, clients, and local regulations.
  • Perform bi-yearly full site EHS inspections to evaluate management’s EHS self-assessments.
  • Verify operations follow environmental legal requirements for hazardous materials and waste management, environmental permitting, spill prevention, and other environmental procedures.
  • Monitor management’s leading and lagging safety Key Performance Indictors.
  • Prepare EHS performance reports for management teams.
  • Certify investigation of near misses, incidents, and injuries is conducted and that effective corrective actions are defined to ensure organizational learning.
  • Certify incident/injury information, lessons learned, best practices, and corrective actions are developed and communicated to employees and other applicable business entities.
  • Document incidents, injuries, and near-misses in the Intelex safety management system.
  • Assist and advise throughout safety investigations, root cause analysis, and reviews.
  • Assist developing and implementing emergency response plans.
  • Ensure job classification training matrices identify suitable training requirements.
  • Ensure completion of required initial, annual, and emerging training needs.
  • Evaluate hazard control measures against the Hierarchy of Controls for effectiveness.
  • Supervise site EHS personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Acceptable Experience Level

  • 8-10 years of EHS-related experience in an overseas government contracting environment.
  • 5-8 years with 85% position EHS-related duties and/or (1700 hours annually) EHS experience in stateside manufacturing, mining, consulting, construction, county/municipal government public administration, or environmental (EPA)
  • An advanced or greater understanding and application of 29 CFR 1910, NFPA Code, and ANSI standards, and a moderate understanding of international EHS laws and regulations
  • Environmental Laws including RCRA (Resource Conservation Recovery Act), 40 CFR 50-97 (Clean Air Act), 40 CFR 100-140 (Clean Water Act), 40 CFR 141-149 (Safe Drinking Water Act), and 40 CFR 195 (Toxic Substance Control Act)
  • Industrial Hygiene principles, including Noise Management and Exposure assessments with toxicology experience. Overseas Assignment in a Leadership Role (Government Contract)
  • EM 385 1-1, 15 FAM standards, HIPAA, GHS experience
  • OSHA 30 General Industry and 30 Construction certification(s)
  • Current HAZWOPER 40Hour (8-Hr refresher within 12 months of hire)
  • BCSP STS – (Safety Trained Supervisor) – within 8 months of employment-must attend and/or teach 30 hours of training
  • A Professional License or University/College Occupational Health and Safety Certificate may be considered as “meeting educational requirements listed above” with at least one year of full-time internship or work experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
    • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
    • Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
    • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information and public speaking.
    • Ability to multitask and operate as EHS Manager in the absence of leadership.
  • Passport, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to the expiration date with 8 blank pages.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Ametntum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for the duration of the deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous out-of-home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
  • Experience working with AMENTUM.
  • ISO 45001:2018 OH&S/ ISO14001:2015 EMS/ ISO:2015 QMS or OHSAS 18001-2007 Lead Auditor
  • BCSP – CSP, GSP, CHST, CHMM, ASP, or OHST
  • Continuing EHS education from BCSP, NEBOSH, ISO, OSHA, FEMA, or other accredited boards or universities/colleges.
  • International General Certification (NEBOSH&IOSH), or,
  • NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, or,
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction, or,
  • NEBOSH IIRSM Certificate on Managing Risk.
