Job Summary

The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor provides oversight of all groundskeeping crews and directs the weed-eating, mowing, and tree-trimming of all Balad Air Base grounds. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor supervises the removal of leaves, fallen branches, other weather-generated debris, and trash from all Balad Air Base grounds. Instructs ground crews in the proper use of tools and equipment. Conducts Safety hazard training and Toolbox Topics. Assists the Services Managers in administrating and managing the grounds’ daily functions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the Martyr Ali Flaih Air Base grounds are attractive and well-kept by planning work assignments and actively supervising the quality of groundskeeping services.
  • Ensures that the established standards are achieved by regularly inspecting the work of grounds personnel, directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary and appropriate, and conducting training of groundskeepers on the proper and safe way of operating all tools and equipment.
  • Ensures that groundskeeping personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform their duties by estimating the types and amounts of materials and equipment needed for specific groundskeeping projects, submitting procurement requests, issuing the material and equipment to groundskeepers, and tracking and recording daily use.
  • Trains grounds personnel, oversees training on properly performing grounds services, including equipment operation, safe use of chemicals, and customer interface, and encourages initiative by fostering pride in maintaining assigned areas to the highest departmental standards.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Contributes to the success of the Grounds Department by performing all other essential duties as assigned.
  • Ensures the coordination of approved personnel and material movement for interior and exterior fence perimeter through the Security Operation Center and IQAF, including rectifying discrepancies and ensuring base safety through security compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the management.

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 (three) years of experience in managing outdoor work crews that perform multiple tasks is required.
  • A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Experience with the methods, materials, and equipment used in trimming trees, shrubs, plants, ground cover, and grasses is preferred.
  • Experience properly using, controlling, storing, and disposing of pesticides, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, gas, oil, and mixtures used for different equipment and similar chemicals is required.

Physical Requirements And Work Conditions

  • The ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds, climb, walk, stand, stoop, stretch, bend, and sit for extended hours.
  • The ability to operate push and riding power mowers, chain saws, commercial tractors, and similar ground maintenance equipment is required.
  • Ability to live and work in harsh climatic and austere conditions, including the potential for moderate to extreme physical danger.
