As the Radar Technician you shall maintain and repair electronics such as military and commercial off the shelf Airport Surveillance Radars (ASR), Precision Approach Radar (PAR), Monopluse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR), Weather Radars, analog-to-digital interface systems and associated system network hardware (routers, hubs, switches, network interface cards, etc).

Will also need to demonstrate advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems (i.e., those that cannot be solved by reference to manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents) in working on electronic equipment. The work requires extensive and thorough knowledge of the principles of electricity and electronics, and shop supervision, including shop practices and techniques; and requires thorough knowledge of electronic and electrical circuitry, and the ability to interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics, manuals, handbooks, and technical specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Previous experience maintaining ground based radar systems.
  • Perform system repairs and preventive maintenance on Air Traffic Control (ATC) radar systems and related equipment. Specific electronic equipment supported may include /ASR-8/ASR-9/ASR-11 (Airport Surveillance Radar), GPN-22/TPN-22 (Precision Approach Radar) or equivalent systems.
  • Repairing, overhauling, modifying ground radar systems including analog-to-digital interface systems such as STRAP, etc.
  • Isolating malfunctions by prescribed systems checking procedures, visual inspections, voltage checks, and other tests using electronic test equipment and Control and Monitoring (CMS) software/systems.
  • Accomplishing organizational and intermediate level equipment modifications according to time compliance technical orders.
  • Assembling, installing, and repairing antenna systems, transmission lines, and waveguides
  • Performing corrosion control
  • Ensuring maintenance data collection forms and inspections and maintenance records are accurately completed.
  • Maintain Facilities Status Records (e.g.: AFTO 499, 512,514, etc.).
  • Independently verifies operational condition of radar and integrated system to be within prescribed parameters in accordance with applicable Technical Order/Manual or directive (commercial manuals, FAA Orders, and CEMIs).
  • Repair, adjust and aligns radar and integrated system to pass recertification and periodic flight checks.
  • Repair, adjust and align interface equipment for radar display in control tower.
  • Performs other related duties needed/required to support the mission.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have attended a DOD or FAA electronics or industrial school course of instruction, or an accredited correspondence school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience/background in electronics repair, maintenance and testing and a minimum 3 years electronic repair, maintenance, and test of ATC Radar systems.
  • Experience maintaining ATC Digital Airport Surveillance and Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar preferred.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must have valid U.S. Driver’s License and be able to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission.
  • Must have a valid International Driver’s License.
  • May be required to obtain a flight line driver’s license.
  • Valid U.S. Passport preferred or the ability to obtain a U.S. Passport.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Knowledge and skills to maintain and repair electronic ATC Radar systems, including associated network hardware.
  • Knowledge and skills working with electricity and electronics.
  • Ability to use the specialized test equipment and software to isolate malfunctions.
  • Maintaining Records.
  • Ability to repair mechanical and electrical assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Must have the technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of electronic systems or electronic equipment.
  • Participate in and provide technical assistance during system flight inspections.
  • Maintain diagnostic tapes, tools, support, and test equipment.
  • Maintain accountability of all parts of appropriate systems, spare parts and requisitioning of spare parts.
  • Proper safety procedures in system maintenance and operation IAW OSHA guideline.

TRAVEL: 100%, in deployed location.
