Background

Working under contract with USAID and other aid donors, Chemonics designs and implements development projects in many of the world’s developing countries.

The Iraq Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO) is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) program implemented by Chemonics International in Iraq. DCEO aims to support vulnerable communities to build community resilience against destabilizing factors by increasing their adaptive capacity and economic well-being. The project consists of two objectives. Objective 1, Adaptative capacity of vulnerable communities increased is achieved through two components. Component 1.1 seeks to mitigate drivers of conflict in targeted communities and Component 1.2 seeks to enhance community leadership of inclusive local development.  Objective 2, Economic well-being of communities advanced, will rest on the assessments, analysis, foundations, and groundwork of Objective 1.

 

OBJECTIVE:

  • DCEO/Tahfeez seeks agricultural experts to support the design, preparation, and delivery of training to alfalfa farmers in Baharka. The program will hire one trainer.
  • The trainer will be responsible for developing the farmer training materials to cover alfalfa farming best practices, water management, pollution control, organic farming, safe use of harvesting and bailing equipment (including the use of the appropriate PPE), and proper plowing practices.
  • The training should be targeted at participants with varied levels of formal education and be designed to be completed in approximately five, half-day sessions with the potential for follow up visits and coaching to trainees.
  • Following approval of the training materials, the trainer will be responsible for delivering the training to farmers in Erbil Governorate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare curriculum for agriculture training.
  • Prepare the training materials.
  • Record session attendance in full compliance with project MEL requirements
  • Coordinate with the project team to identify training location and coordinate schedule.
  • Conducting training sessions in the field for a group of 10 or more farmers, approximately 4 hours per training session.
  • Provide recommendations for further agriculture training.
  • Prepare and conduct pre and post-test for the training participants to evaluate learning outcomes.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Deliverables:

  • Training needs assessments
  • Training curriculum and materials
  • Arrange and deliver training sessions to farmers in the field.
  • Conduct pre and post evaluation for training.
  • Training reports including recommendation for future training
  • Reports on trainee coaching and mentoring, as applicable

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Engineering, Master’s preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in agriculture-related projects.
  • Experience in arranging, developing, and facilitating training for farmers.
  • Fluency in Kurdish required, and other local languages preferred.
  • Preference for applicants residing in target communities – Erbil – Baharka.
