Join our team as a Network Engineer focusing on Telephone systems, where you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the Department of State’s Telephone shop network infrastructure. This position requires expertise in maintaining enterprise voice networks, ensuring the availability of mission-critical resources, and optimizing network performance. As a Network Engineer, you’ll design, install, troubleshoot, and document system and network hardware, with a focus on Avaya and Cisco technologies.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Estimated Starting Salary Range for Network Engineer – Telephone: Pay commensurate with experience.

Network Engineer – Telephone Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and execute the installation of new Local Area Networks (LANs) and complex modifications or extensions to existing ones.
- Recommend installation of new or modified data bandwidth circuits, routers, switches, and other hardware.
- Prepare equipment specification, layouts, cost estimates, user training and system documentation
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and document network hardware including WAN routers, LAN routers, hubs, switches, and modems.
- Analyze network performance data to recommend configuration changes for optimal efficiency of installed technology.
- Utilize software and hardware tools to diagnose network issues, such as but not limited to PRTG, LAN analyzer, signal generator, data line test set, and power line monitor
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Network Engineer – Telephone Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience or 8 years job-related experience in lieu of education.
- Cisco CCNA, CCNA Security, CCNP certification.
- Substantial knowledge in current Cisco applications and tools.
- Working knowledge of Avaya VOIP Programming.
- Experience supporting voice RRI, SIP trunks, ACD, and POTS.
- Experience administering Avaya / Nortel switches.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a US Citizen and possess an active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
