Wood is currently looking for a Rig Coach to support our team in Basra, Iraq on a 4 weeks on / 4 weeks Off Rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Assigned to the Project for a period of 12 months.
  • Written / Spoken English proficiency is mandatory.
  • Demonstrate a track record of actively mentoring both local staff and contractors (ideally in Iraq) in workover activities and workover rig management.
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively engage, influence, and gain the confidence of the leadership & team members to achieve objectives.
  • Actively participate in both field and office-based activities to direct multiple ongoing activities.
  • Demonstrate an ability for higher level, strategic thinking and planning to achieve company goals and objective.
  • Demonstrate strong well control skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the ongoing SSHE culture.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing multiple simultaneous workover units with work over activities.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing concurrent rig less activities including slick line, well testing, coil tubing interventions, stimulation in a fast-paced SIMOPS environment.
  • Demonstrate a committed approach to process improvement, efficiency gains and a reduction in Non-Productive Time.
  • Extensive experience with running, commissioning, maintaining and inspecting workover rigs.
  • Experienced with all forms of completions (vertical and horizontal), selective and non selective.
  • Experienced in all forms of artificial lift including ESP, PCP and Jet Pumping.
  • Experienced in well head works (maintenance and repair).

Detailed Job Description: Daily Activities

Operations

  • Provides operational/Safety expertise and day-to-day supervision activities necessary to assure wellwork/workover programs are carried out in a safe and cost-effective manner and in accordance with the approved work program
  • Must be capable and willing to mentor secondees to achieve industry/company standards as a minimum.
  • Ensures rig/rigless site SSHE plans are implemented and monitored incorporating industry and contractor standard safety requirements.
  • Works closely with the Drilling and Well Work superintendent, Safety, well engineering team, Engineering team, Operations team and subsurface section heads to achieve the well work performance goals
  • Implement the best available technology in well work operations to reduce cost/cycle time and to ensure safe /efficient operational execution to meet the approved work schedule.
  • Primary responsibility for ensuring that the necessary personnel, equipment, supplies, and services are available as required with a strong emphasis on contingency planning.
  • Cognizant of well integrity considerations in on-going activities.
  • Reviews, coordinates and updates well work / workover programs and operating procedures as required.
  • Monitors well work (rig and rig less) team experience.
  • Develops a meaningful well work delivery procedure (including Workover on paper exercises, SIMOPS planning After Action reviews and lessons learned exercises).

SHHE

  • Actively involves all of the workforce irrespective of company or position in company SSHE activities.
  • Ensures that all staff participate actively in JSA, hazard hunts and daily observation and intervention activities.
  • Implements security programs for all personnel and work sites under their direct control.
  • Ensures SSHE incidents are effectively managed and reported with a critical focus on the medical attention that is provided to the IP.
  • Attends incident investigation exercises as required helping to identify root cause, contributing factors and future mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with company environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures operational risks have been assessed and risk mitigation activities have been appropriately implemented and communicated to rig site personnel as appropriate.
  • Coordinates additional risk assessment(s) if new scenarios and/or significant changes occur. Confirms proper documentation and timely close out if any findings.
  • Ensures planned emergency response drills are conducted and learnings evaluated and shared.
  • Ensures the correct up to date documentation pertaining to the planned operations is available both at the work site and with the appropriate contractor(s) as required

Training and mentoring

  • Ensures that personnel selected for the well work / workover positions have the required experience, knowledge, training and other skills.
  • Proposes and sources additional training that may be required for well work personnel.
  • Ensures periodic training requirements are met (e.g. well control, equipment maintenance etc.) and an active register of all staff is maintained to ensure compliance.
  • Implements and fosters mentoring programs.
  • Actively participates in career guidance, counseling and coaching as required.
  • Ensures significant changes in plans, procedures equipment, or personnel in key positions receive adequate review and approval.
  • Maintain documentation of completed job handover forms, ensuring a smooth transition between departments to minimize production losses.
  • Ensures well work / workover procedures are appropriate, understood, and followed by all employees, contractors and other third parties.

Contractor management

  • Oversees compliance with company procedures and programs, SIMOPS and SSHE procedures.
  • Ensures contractor has appropriate operations and maintenance programs in place and these are implemented for the equipment supplied.
  • Ensures contractor has appropriate critical spares and preventative maintenance programs in place to minimize any potential down time.
  • Ensure contractors have the appropriate certification in place as per industry and company standards.
  • Ensure contractors are aware of and properly handle the hazards associated with their work; and, that their activities are monitored, and feedback is provided to enable improvement through regular written and verbal feedback reviews.
  • Ensures significant changes in plans, procedures equipment, or personnel in key positions receive adequate review and approval.
  • Maintain documentation of completed job handover forms and ensure all relevant parties are aware of the completion of work.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience required in workover rig operations (well work) as a coach, supervisor or higher level.
  • Demonstrable English communication skills; written, oral and comprehension.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, adaptable and willing to work in a multi-national / cultural environment.
  • Flexible enough to work in a demanding strict security environment.
  • Self-starter with a strong drive to improve and problem solve.
  • Committed to achieving results and hard work with a continuous improvement mind-set.
  • Must demonstrate both integrity and honesty at all times; and be able to admit errors and sustain transparency.
  • Level 4 IADC well control (surface stack) Coach level (valid for at least 12 months).
