- POST CONTEXT
NMI is a non-combat, demands-driven advisory and training mission which executes its tasks in close cooperation with Iraqi partners.
The PSE Division advises various Iraqi Professional Military and Security Education Institutions. Deputy Director PSE provides direct support to the Director PSE and all PSE elements to enable their advisory
activities. The LAT provides expertise in foundational Language Training, according to NATO Standards (NATO STANAG 6001). The incumbent’s main responsibility is to plan, prepare and conduct all Subject Matter Expert language testing activities aimed at the implementation of measures for Faculty and Institutional Development.
- DUTIES
The incumbent’s duties are:
- Plans, prepares and conducts all Subject Matter Expert language testing activities aimed at the implementation of measures for Faculty and Institutional Development.
- Drafts the NATO STANAG 6001 English language tests, in cooperation with Head LAT.
- Responsible for delivering and marking the NATO STANAG 6001 English Language tests.
- Responsible for the database of test results.
- Acts as Liaison with the language related ISi Testing Cell, once established.
- Establishes and supports an enduring relationship between NATO’s Language Advisory Body, BILC and language ISI faculty, such that NATO is the partner of choice for support with languages for which other bilateral arrangements do not exist.
- Assists with Teacher Training, when required.
- Attends the Annual NATO BILC Language Testing Workshop
The employee may be required to perform a similar range of duties elsewhere within the organisation at the same grade without there being any change to the contract.
- The incumbent may be required to deploy on operational tasks, or to undertake operational TDY assignments elsewhere.
- Exceptional employment in locations outside of the borders of Iraq and under austere conditions for prolonged periods of time might occur.
- The incumbent must be prepared for temporary reassignment within NMI’s authorized CE in accordance with ACO 045-003 and as directed by COM NMI, in support of operational requirements.
- Given the dynamic operating environment in Iraq, the incumbent must be prepared to retrograde from the Greater Baghdad Area, possibly at short notice, for employment in locations outside of the borders of Iraq and under austere conditions for prolonged periods of time.
The work is normally performed in a Normal NATO office working environment / Secure office environment with artificial light and air (e.g. Bunker).

- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
University Degree in relevant modern languages, any subject if education accomplished in both of the mandatory languages or related discipline, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related and 2 years function related experience;
The incumbent must have at least 6 years of progressive experience in language training for any of the range languages taught in the DLI, to include any from English, Italian, German, Russian, Turkish or Persian.
Must have at least 2 years of progressive experience of instructional methods for a language institution in another country.
Trained teacher with a recognized teaching qualification, e.g. PGCE, or BEd.
English Language- SLP 4343 – (Listening. Speaking, Reading and Writing)
DESIRABLE
Masters in education-related field.
Knowledge of political and military processes obtained from experience gained in working in an International Organization.
Experience of developing and delivering language tests to adults.
Experience in the Middle East.
English – SLP 4444 – (Listening. Speaking, Reading and Writing).
Arabic Language basic knowledge
COURSES:
ADL 169 – Improving Operational Effectiveness by Integrating Gender Perspective.
Post-related courses obtained through NATO official schools/academies or other military/international training centers, e.g. BILC LSAS, LTS or ALTS, run at PLTCE.

Personal attributes
Ability to communicate effectively with faculty staff, and diplomatically advise them on the modernization of their teaching subjects. Independent role; confident in working with limited supervision.
Capable of managing commitments, and coordinating the necessary visits with the HQ military staff; confidence in engaging with a wide variety of civilians and military ranks.
Professional contacts
Professional contacts with others limited to the exchange of information requiring normal courtesy and effectiveness in dealing with others.
Contribution to the objectives
Work involves the provision of information or analysis of part of a task assisting others to take action within the organisation.

This post deputises:NTI PCT 0030 – Staff Officer (Curriculum development).
- EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
The successful candidate will be offered a 12-month definite duration contract, which may be renewed based on the operational need/funding for the position.
The basic salary for an MCIV 5 is Euro € 6,051.00 per month (exempt from local taxation). A further amount of 12% of the basic salary will be paid to the staff member every month to satisfy personal pension obligations, plans, and/or schemes. Furthermore, the successful candidate may be eligible to event-based allowances ( hazard, austere, extended working hours), in accordance with the conditions stipulated by the Mission Civilian Rules.
This post is a non-accompanied assignment. Living quarters provided by NATO.
The NMI mission, while not combat, is executed in a combat environment. Specific roles, responsibilities, and tasks are subject to change based on the Commander’s on-the-spot assessment of the situation. Commander, NMI reserves the right to reassign personnel or reapportion tasks within the CE based on mission requirements/changes.
