Telephone Technician (BEC, BDSC, Erbil)

The Telephone Technician (BEC, BDSC, Erbil) is responsible for expert-level technical support of Avaya (formerly Nortel) telecommunications systems, including switches, servers, and associated equipment, across Department of State (DOS) locations in Iraq. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing phone sets, ensuring system availability, and overseeing hardware procurement and logistics. The technician also provides training and documentation, conducts site surveys, and performs manual installation operations, among other duties.

Telephone Technician (BEC, BDSC, Erbil) Responsibilities Include:

• Providing technical support for Avaya telecommunications systems and switches.
• Maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing phone sets and associated equipment.
• Designing, installing, and maintaining Analog, Digital, and VoIP telephone systems.
• Performing manual installation operations, including cabling.
• Overseeing hardware procurement, logistics, and maintenance programs
• Conducting site surveys and fault isolation.
• Providing training and documentation for staff.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations.
• Perform technical site surveys to determine structural and technical requirements.
• Position requirements include performing work in confined areas such as crawlspaces, attics, utility pits, tunnels, manholes and other confined spaces on an occasional basis. Performing tasks from heights to include rooftops, ledges, scaffolding and extension ladders. Moving and handling heavy objects such as crates, equipment racks and other building materials.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Telephone Technician (BEC, BDSC, Erbil) Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience or 13 years job-related experience. [Military specializations in phone/voice systems and two years’ job-related experience may be considered.]
• Desired certifications: Nortel CS 1000, Cisco CCNA Voice, Avaya ACIS, BICSI Installer.
• Extensive knowledge of Avaya/Nortel-based telephone systems.
• Experience with Avaya CS1000E release 7.5 or higher, VoIP phones, Unified Communications Manager, Network Routing Service and Element Manager.
• Skilled in call accounting software, call routing, identification, recording, and automated attendants.
• Clearance Level Required: Secret.
• Ability to pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
