This position is contingent upon Customer approval, funding, and/or position availability.

The Weather Service Specialist will be primarily based at Amentum’s Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC) in Baghdad, Iraq, and serve the Life Support Services contract in support of the State of Department. The Weather Service Specialist will be responsible for utilizing resources to accomplish operational requirements and will report to the Weather Service Supervisor. The additional duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive:

DUTIES:

  • Operate and maintain services to include Observations, Forecasts, Weather Warnings, Weather Advisories and Flight Weather Briefings
  • Take and disseminate airfield Meteorological Aerodrome Report (METAR) observations in accordance with the World Meteorological Organization’s standards utilizing Air Force Manual 15-111, and locally available (installed) weather equipment (AWOS, TMQ-53, and backup Kestrels).
  • Develop and disseminate a terminal aerodrome forecast (TAF) in accordance with the World Meteorological Organization’s standards utilizing Air Force Manual 15-124
  • Develop and disseminate Mission Execution Forecasts and 5-Day Outlooks and provides Flight Weather Briefings to include seasonal briefings as required.
  • Understand and communicate critical weather impacts that have the potential to disrupt scheduled flight operations and/or the site assets and personnel safety.
  • Work closely with management, dispatchers and airport personnel in a demanding yet rewarding environment.
  • Brief Airfield Operations personnel on weather impacts that affect aircraft flight systems.

REQUIRED:

Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Three (3) years Weather Forecasting experience (preferrable 5+ years).

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in meteorology or military training with 3-5 years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in Airfield Operations.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks. and administrative details in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Access, and Word.
  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

Passport, Licenses and Certifications:

  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.
  • Valid drivers’ license from Home of Record.

Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Secret Clearance or be able to obtain a favorable Secret Clearance or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

Language Skills: English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Department of State experience.
  • Experience working with Air Force Weather Information Network (AFW WEBs).
  • One (1) year of international experience in challenging locations, preferably working in the Middle East.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 12 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
