Community based MHPSS Team Leader - IQ Talent Marketplace

Erbil Office, Refugee camps of (Darashakran, Kawergosk, Qushtapa, Basirma), and urban areas.

Summary of Position: 

Is a professional who manages a team of mental health community workers in providing mental health and psychosocial support services to individuals and communities affected by conflict, disaster, or other traumatic events. The leader is responsible for developing and implementing community based MHPSS programs, ensuring quality service delivery, coordinating with other agencies, and providing technical support and capacity building to the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the assessment of community based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) needs and gaps in the community, using appropriate tools and methodologies to gather data and information.
• Analyze assessment findings and develop a comprehensive MHPSS response plan, with input from the team, other stakeholders, and affected communities.
• Lead the implementation of MHPSS activities in the community, ensuring that services are provided in a timely and appropriate manner, and that asylum seekers and refuges receive the necessary support and care.
• Plan for awareness raising and community mobilization to increase understanding of mental health and psychosocial support, reduce stigma, and promote help-seeking behaviors.
• Oversee the work of the team, ensuring that all members are appropriately trained, supervised, and supported in their roles.
• Collaborate with other agencies and actors involved in the response to ensure that MHPSS activities are integrated into broader humanitarian interventions.
• Monitor and evaluate community based MHPSS activities and report on progress, challenges, and lessons learned, using appropriate indicators and tools to measure impact and effectiveness.
• Work closely with communities and other stakeholders to ensure that MHPSS interventions are culturally appropriate, relevant, and responsive to the needs of beneficiaries.
• Lead in strengthening community-based committees and empower them to advocate for MHPSS services and resources through job coaching, seminars, workshops and other community mobilization activities.
• Lead in sharing information on MHPSS services and resources with community members and key stakeholders through appropriate channels and strategies to maximize reach and impact.
• Provide technical support, capacity building, and supervision to the team of mental health professionals and community workers.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings related to mental health and psychosocial support in the context of humanitarian response.
• Work collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders, including local authorities and partners, to ensure that mental health and psychosocial support interventions are culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of beneficiaries.
• Develop and implement community based mental health and psychosocial support programs in accordance with international guidelines and best practices.

Organization Development:

• Ensures that all CB MHPSS team members know and adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures for preventing sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and other safeguarding procedures.
• Ensures that all new and old staff are trained on the policies and procedures.
• Helps create a safe and respectful environment for all team members and the people we serve.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in psychology, social work, or related field, with specialization in mental health and psychosocial support.
• At least 3 years of experience in managing teams and implementing CB mental health and psychosocial support programs in emergency or humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated knowledge of community mobilization and MHPSS support principles, international guidelines, and best practices in humanitarian response.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of professionals and community workers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Fluent in Arabic, Kurdish and English (written and spoken).
• Willingness to work in challenging and volatile environments, with frequent travel to project sites.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
• Can travel throughout Kurdistan and stay in other city.
