Consultancy Title: Capacity Building Trainers
Type of contract: Service contract – Consultant
Duty Station: Ramadi, Al- Anbar/ Iraq
Brief description of the organization
Al Mesalla for Human Resources Development is a non-governmental organization established in 2004 and registered in Baghdad and Erbil with headquarters located in Erbil. The organization is working at disseminating a culture of human rights and peacebuilding in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The organization is currently working along 3 programs: A non-violence and peace-building program developing peace capacities within the community; women and Gender program empowering women to take an active role in the community and a Human Rights Program which focuses especially on enhancing freedom of expression. Since June 2014, Al Mesalla developed services for the growing refugee and displaced community settling in the Kurdish Region of Iraq by participating in distributing emergency support and establishing empowerment and livelihood programs for displaced women in particular.

Workshop A: DEI in Community Engagement (2 days)
1- Introduction to Governance and Social Cohesion (IRC definition)
- Introduction to good governance and local governance.
- Introduction to Social Cohesion and the local administration’s role in strengthening social cohesion (generally and in the Iraq context).
2- Diversity, Equality,and Inclusion (DEI) in community engagement (refer to KAI)
- Defining Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion and the differences between the principles.
- Are these principles applied in community engagement in day-to-day work?
- Are they important to your location context?
- How can we promote the principles in engaging with the community?
- How to be Gender sensitive in service delivery?
Workshop B: Community Engagement and Communication Skills (2 days)
- Defining Community Engagement and Communication.
- Approaches for community engagements for local governance structures (feedback mechanisms/accountability, community dialogues, open house meetings, natural resources committees etc..)
- How to improve your listening skills, including empathetic listening and perspective-taking?
- Understanding how identities, power, and privilege impact your interactions.
- Effectively managing community-engaged projects
Workshop C: Conflict Prevention and De-escalation Techniques (2 days)
- What are the drivers of conflict and violence in service delivery and community engagement?
- Tools and mechanisms to prevent or/and manage conflict/tensions in service delivery. (de-escalation etc.)
- Applying de-escalation tools and techniques at the community level from a local governance approach.

Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in conducting capacity building activities/ToT and development of training modules on Peace Building and Social Cohesion with conflict prevention.
- Good technical knowledge of PMP, and human rights in line with Al-Mesalla’s standards.
- Good technical knowledge of life skills and peacebuilding and Ramadi society.
- Experience working with Government and/or international organizations.
- Bachelor or master’s degree in social sciences, political sciences, conflict prevention, or a relevant field
- Fluency in English and Arabic languages
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with different civic actors.
- Experience in managing training in multi-cultural/ethnic audiences.
- Strong ability in managing politically sensitive issues, in a responsible way.
