Chemonics International

Position Overview:

Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm, seeks a Diversity and Social Inclusion (DSI) Advisor for the USAID Iraq Together project. Iraq Together aims to provide more equitable, efficient, and sustainable public services in Iraq, as well as improving government responsiveness to citizens’ needs and demands. Objectives of this project include working with the Government of Iraq (GOI) to improve service delivery and strengthen democratic and participatory governance.

Responsibilities for the Diversity and Social Inclusion Advisor include:

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight on diversity technical direction for project objectives.
  • In coordination with the COP and other technical leads, develop diversity strategy and identify activity level diversity and inclusion related indicators
  • Work with the technical leads to ensure diversity considerations are effectively “translated” to service delivery and project outcomes
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and activities throughout project interventions
  • Support the development of tools, systems, processes and approaches that continuously improve technical excellence and impact in the area of transformative approaches to diversity and social inclusion
  • Facilitate and support a strong learning and knowledge sharing community around diversity-transformative practices amongst delivery partners
  • Manage development and implementation of work plans, and performance management plans in areas of expertise
  • As necessary, liaise with USAID specialists, government officials, and other key donors, implementing partner organizations and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project quarterly and annual progress reports by providing updates on the project’s diversity programming. The updates will need to highlight the project’s effective inclusion approaches
  • Provide diversity specific information to the Chief of Party for inclusion and distribution to USAID for digital platforms such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Reports to Chief of Party

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social science, diversity studies, anthropology, communication, or similar field related to diversity and disadvantaged populations
  • Minimum five years of experience working on issues related to diversity and vulnerable populations, community rights, human rights, and relevant international and Iraq legal and policy frameworks and standards
  • Ability to work with CSOs, NGOs, community-based groups, policymakers, government actors, media, private sector, international donors, and government actors at all levels
  • Experience leading programming with multiple ongoing activities, stakeholders and various locations
  • Experience constructively engaging stakeholders on issues relevant to women’s empowerment
  • Experience working with USAID or other large multi- or bilateral donor is preferred
  • General knowledge of mainstreaming diversity topics, including development of diversity sensitive indicators, diversity based analysis, and construction of clear diversity targets
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Prior experience working on similar projects in Iraq or MENA region.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English required.
