Role Purpose

The Head of Operations – Grocery Retail is located in Erbil- Iraq and responsible for defining the local operations strategy for in line with organization objectives and developed strategies. The role holder is also responsible for the results of the business units and leading the team in line with the expansion plan of the company.

Responsibilities

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Performance Management

  • Oversee the proper conservation and utilization, and profitability of the assets in Iraq and guarantee “Asset Visits” in all hypermarkets in the country
  • Propose and control the application of investments that reinforce the notion of discount, productivity and profitability
  • Initiate comparative studies within the country that can contribute to the efficiency of the commercial concepts
  • Oversee the financial aspects in terms of Financial KPIs, Budget and DOA; to secure the return of investment on current operating projects

Strategic Planning

  • Participate in the development of the national concept and oversee its application within the country
  • Prepare the merchandise strategy for the country based on the international merchandise strategy and control its implementation on a store level
  • Review market information and propose corrective actions
  • Oversee the development of MAF Retail’s corporate policies and procedures, and monitor the implementation in the assigned country
  • Oversee the application of the product assortment structure and the quality of product presentation
  • Ensure the merchandise team and stores team follow procedures related to merchandise filing

Business Operations

  • Follow up new projects during the whole project phase and coordinate synergies between business units
  • Oversee the promotional image is maintained in the country
  • Ensure the application of the stores action plans in line with the overall country strategy
  • Oversee the establishment of a competitive assortment offer, to secure MAF Retail a leading position in the relevant market
  • Oversee the sales dynamics and retailtainment (attractive display, ambiance etc.) in the country
  • Monitor the quality of services offered to clients in the country
  • Oversee that the stock level contributes to the optimisation of the working capital
  • Oversee the appropriate application of the business cycle

Human Capital Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of the performance management process
  • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles
  • Identify training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
  • Oversee the development and implementation of on the job-training
  • Ensure constant availability of the required competent staff to support the organization in meeting all its responsibilities, plans, and objectives
  • Provide inputs while developing MAF Retail’s corporate policies and relevant procedures, and monitor the implementation

Qualification, Experience & Skills

Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field is required, MBA is a preference
  • 10+ years’ experience in a managerial role, with at least 5 years in the retail industry
  • Demonstrated high level skills in team management
  • Good business communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management
