Duty station:

Erbil Office, Refugee camps of (Darashakran, Kawergosk, Qushtapa, Basirma), and urban areas.

 

Summary of Position: 

The Senior Case Coordinator provides ongoing and regular supportive, reflective supervision and training as needed to the clinical staff. S/he also provides counselling services to asylum seekers and refuges. The Senior Case Coordinator also plays a crucial role in coordinating and following up on cases with UNHCR, ensuring that asylum seekers and refugees receive the highest quality of care and support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Skills:

  • Provides mental health counselling support based on organization’s guidelines and best practice interventions.
  • Maintains a commitment to high ethical standards.
  • Developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with clients that are professional, trustworthy and confidential.
  • Adheres to professional clinical guidelines and procedures developed by the organization.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the clinical staff on potential clients to be referred to therapy.
  • Participates in advocacy, crisis intervention, counseling and problem solving in medical and psychiatric care for asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Maintains client case record and documentation of services in a timely manner as requested by the organization.
  • Serves clients without regard to ethnicity, gender, religion or income and abides by basic human rights principles while conducting activities associated with this position.

Supervision Skills:

  • Technical supervision of field staff and activity implementation, including MHPSS case management, individual sessions and support groups activities.
  • Provide supervision to clinical staff with a variety of skills and experiences, including psychologists, case managers, etc.
  • Provide reflective, supportive supervision on weekly basis for groups and individuals.
  • Technical supervision of the clinical staff including case presentation and discussion.
  • Provision of technical feedback to the staff and help them to build appropriate treatment plan according the client’s needs.
  • Conduct regular case file audit and check quality and consistency of work.
  • Develop training and orientation for new clinical staff in collaboration with the Senior Clinical Supervisor and the Clinical Director.
  • Provide live supervision briefing and debriefing as required for supervisees.
  • Assist in developing training materials as required by the organization.
  • Follow-up with trainings provided by external facilitators and mini trainings related to the materials covered by facilitators.
  • Role model professional and ethical standards of behavior for his/her supervisees.
  • Actively develops supervision skills, techniques and competencies through consultation and training.
  • Addressing issues affecting adherence to professional standards and develop performance review plan for his /her supervisees.
  • Promote the development of counseling /therapeutic skills and approaches through evaluation and assessment.

Program Development:

  • Assists in developing client materials.
  • Assists in developing client services package.
  • Participates in the trainings as required by the organization.
  • Provides training to clinical staff on skills related to clinical understanding and practice as needed or directed by the organization.

Program Coordination and Outreach

  • Participate in program meetings and presents at clinical case reviews with team.
  • Participates in weekly consultations with staff to review intakes and determine case acceptance.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external providers and acts as the organization’s focal person during the case conferences and meetings.
  • Arranges and/or participates in interagency case conferences with technical focal point from other actors in MHPSS as well as other sectors (i.e. protection/GBV/community services/health).

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Record and review clients’ files regularly to identify client needs and clinical staff’s adherence to clinical standards.
  • Adheres to organization reporting format and system.
  • Report timely to Senior Clinical Supervisor and Project Coordinator on client services and personnel issues relating to clinical staff.
  • Review staff caseload and ensure the staff wellbeing;
  • Ensure that asylum seekers and refugees receive the highest quality of care and support through regularly assessing the needs, identifying any gaps in support, and working with other service providers to ensure that appropriate services are provided.
  • Setting clear priorities, monitoring progress, and ensuring that cases are properly documented and closed in a timely manner.


Other duties and responsibilities

  • Assists other staff with issues as they arise.
  • Participates as needed in other Wchan programs.
  • Act as a trainer and supervisor to other groups and stakeholders like health staff, teachers and volunteers.
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and manage workload effectively

Qualifications &  Skills


Qualifications:

  • Minimum BA degree in psychology, preferably clinical/ counseling psychology. 
  • Skill in Kurdish, Arabic and English languages is essential. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstration of leadership skills in clinical teams.
  • Specialization or basic training in one or more interventions, for examples; PM+, NET, EMDR, TF-CBT.
  • Ability to monitor staff wellbeing and offer ways to increase staff support when needed.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.  
  • Can work and stay in the other city.
  • Willingness to do extra work and as a volunteer.
