The College of Dentistry at the American University of Iraq Baghdad (AUIB) is pleased to invite qualified applicants for a full-time dental teaching assistant faculty position.
Using didactic, simulation clinic coursework and learning assessment, the candidate will support professors and instructors in pre-clinical and laboratory classes covering topics related to endodontics, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry, including but not limited to operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, and orthodontics. The candidate will be responsible for training site acquisition, student placement, supervision, maintaining student records, and assisting in written and practical tests.
Strategic Objectives that the Candidate Needs to Meet
We seek individuals with good knowledge of dental practices and procedures, including practical ethics and confidentiality; basic dental records, charts, and forms; dental terminology; and good communication, organizational, and teamwork skills to contribute to our educational programs, including preclinical and clinical practice.
Responsibilities
- Assist in pre-clinical or clinical courses in dentistry.
- Assist in simulation clinic content for all dentistry coursework, including demonstrations of correct procedural techniques, for the student audience.
- Assist in producing adjunctive educational materials such as demonstration videos or sample laboratory projects for the students to reference.
- Work with the Laboratory Manager and the College Dean to update and maintain the written exam questions and laboratory manual.
- Assist in providing students with grade assessments.
- Contribute to the college’s practice and training facilities and support an environment that facilitates research and scholarly activity.
- Assisting in student placement activities; accurately and punctually submitting all forms and information needed for attendance accounting and grade reporting to the course director and dean of the College.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as the line manager may require.
- Collaborating with other professional staff and administrators to improve instructions.
- Assist in clinic administrative work and lab work.
Experience, Skills, And Educational Requirements
Candidates for this position must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in dentistry
- Solid understanding of dental procedures.
- Experience with digital dental processes such as digital scanning and 3D printing is preferred.
- Experience in teaching and communication skills is preferred.
- Operational understanding of American university educational systems.
