Our mission is to save lives through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations and conflict. Action Against Hunger intervenes in four main areas: Nutrition, Mental Health & Care Practices; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Food Security and Livelihoods; Advocacy and Raising Awareness.

 st Hunger is looking for Two (2) Community Engagement Technician based in its office in Basra.

 Work place: Basra with frequent visits to ACF areas of interventions.

 Type of contract: Initially 4 months Fixed-Term contract with the possibility of exension.

 Working Hours: Full Time Contract of minimum 40 hours per week up to a maximum of 48 hours per week

Monthly Basic Salary:  Action Against Hunger provide competitive salary according to ACF salary grid.

Benefits: Monthly Transport Allowance, Medical Insurance and + End of Year Benefit.

 Purpose of the position : is in charge of activities related to personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene, environment preservation, water scarcity, and other themes which can have a direct or indirect impact on ersonal and public health.

Specific Objectives:

 Mission 1: Assess needs and gaps and design response

  • As per project proposal, and in coordination with line manager and MEAL department to review and develop when needed detailed assessment methodologies according to the contexts.
  • Contribute to the analysis of assessment ensure that analysis are disaggregated by gender age and diversity criteria
  • Assess the existing and preferred communication modalities to effectively reached targeted communities
  • Review, adapt, develop strategy for community engagement, communication campaigns and / or behaviour change campaigns. Such activities may include but are not limited to door to door session, mass media campaigns, group activities, kit distribution).

 Mission 2: Implementation of community engagement activities

  • Assess and select local partners, association, CBOs, volunteers better placed to support project implementation
  • Develop IEC material, key messages, detailed term of reference or step by step guide for community engagement, behaviour change and/or communication activities
  • Develop relevant bill of quantities for implementation of community engagement, behaviour change, communication activities (this may include Non Food Items procurement and distribution)
  • Supervise implementation of activities conducted by Hygiene promoters or partners (association, volunteers, CBOs)
  • Adapt methodology as per monitoring results collected from implementing team
  • Address complaints from CFM and adapt methodology when relevant

 Mission 3: Planning and reporting, provide accurate and timely information to the project manager.

  • Propose to line manager and MEAL department monitoring plan of ongoing activities
  • Submit to line manager weekly activity reports for all implemented activities
  • Regularly analyse results of monitoring activities to continuously adapt communication and community engagement activities
  • Document best practices, failures and lessons learn

 Mission 4: Manage team

  • Review job description of managed staff such as Hygiene promoter and volunteers.
  • Draft ToR defining roles and responsibility of potential partners (association, volunteers, CBOs)
  • Participate in recruitment of Hygiene promoter
  • Train implementing team : Hygiene promoters or partners (association, volunteers, CBOs)in the implementation of activities

 Mission 5: Ensure adherence to Action against Hunger gender requirements

  • Commit and comply with the organization gender, age and diversity principles & policies (working with people, communication)
  • Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and or through the management of their teams (Managing performance & development)

Qualifications


Recruitment Criteria:

Qualification/Degree:

BACHELOR’S DEGREE or equivalent Level Qualification in Social science, communication, and health

Required

Professional Experience

2 years’ work experience in a relevant field.

Required Technical Skills

Experience in in water resource , sanitation management and hygiene promotion activities  

Experience in NGO WaSH development would be a distinct advantage

Managerial Skills (if applicable)

Good organizational skills

Good communication skills

 

Language Skills

English: Mandatory  (good speaking, reading and writing: working knowledge)

Arabic: Mandatory (reading/writing/speaking)

IT Skills

Good computer knowledge : Word, Excel, and Power point
