Baghdad Medical Rehabilitation Centre

The MSF Baghdad Rehabilitation Centre (BMRC) intends to offer early comprehensive care with medical services post surgery to the patients with trauma that resulted in fractures and or amputation in the lower limbs, fractures in the upper limbs. Comprehensive Medical services include: early physiotherapy, nursing care, pain management and psychological support. BMRC works also in partnership with Amman RSP for providing comprehensive medical care to Iraqi war victims who needs reconstructive surgeries.

 

MSF / Baghdad BMRC team is seeking for: Rehabilitation Outreach Officer (ROO)

 

Main Purpose:

working in close collaboration with the rheumatologists/rehab doctors, physiotherapists, advocacy manager and orthopaedic doctors in public hospitals advocating for early rehabilitation, and referrals and reinforcing smoother referral pathways for patients

Identifies and refers patients after acute trauma surgery in public hospitals to the Early rehabilitation wards in the public hospitals or MSF Baghdad Medical Rehabilitation Centre (BMRC) OPD according to admission criteria.

The ROO will be the main responsible for patient referral to these facilities. working in close collaboration with the doctors responsible for referral to Amman Reconstructive Surgery Project and with the BMRC medical team.

Scope of responsibilities:

Patient Identification and Referral

  • Identifies patients within BMRC admission criteria in Baghdad public hospitals (orthopedic surgeons and rheumatologists/rehabilitation doctors).
  • Establish which patient is suitable for OPD care and refer accordingly.
  • Creates a patient file within the EMR
  • Explains the multidisciplinary care plan to the patient
  • Refers the patient after agreement from the treating surgeon, the admission committee, and the patient according to BMRC capacity
  • If needed, can assess and explain the possibility of referral to Amman Reconstructive Surgery hospital and opens a patient file for starting the referral process.
  • When necessary, ensures the follow-up process between BMRC and the treating surgeon and rheumatologists/rehabilitation doctors, especially for some significant updates.

 

MOH/DOH/hospitals Relationship

  • Networking: diversify and build a network of a variety of patients from different sources (surgeons, MoH rheumatologists/Rehab, Orthopedic doctors, physiotherapists, and nurses).
  • Remains in constant communication with the referring surgeons, rheumatologists/rehabilitation specialists, and other key figures in the surgical, IPD, OPD and administrative departments.
  • Keeps the network team physicians informed on patients who have been referred to MSF projects or who have left for various reasons (dismissed, defaulted, developed complications, referred to other facilities).
  • Provide support for the decentralization and integration of early rehabilitation programs into the MoH public hospitals. Exploring the MoH OPD pathways of rehabilitation referrals.
  • Focus on educating patients on the importance of early rehabilitation and offer OPD or IPD rehabilitation treatment options availability and accessibility.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Collects and encode information about patient referrals in the EMR and participates in its analysis.
  • Reports and updates the direct Supervisor about his/her movement and daily activities; as well as any relevant information or problem faced in the daily contact with Baghdad public hospitals.
  • Provide a monthly report about his/her activities.
  • Informs the direct supervisor about any problem related to work or complication of the patient’s illness.
  • Collaborate with the advocacy manager working inside Iraq.

Generalities on need

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnosis and prevention. If necessary, carries out patient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols and policies.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participates in ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Knows all MSF medical protocols relevant for his field of activity, and checks that universal precautions are always followed. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.

Qualifications


Education

Medical Doctor Diploma.

 

Experience

3-years’ experience minimum as a Medical Doctor in clinical work    Rheumatology, rehabilitation and orthopaedic care speciality is desirable.

 

Languages                                 

Arabic and English +++ are essential.
